The ISU-152 was a Soviet heavy self-propelled assault gun developed in 1943, built on the chassis of the IS-2 heavy tank. Armed with a massive 152mm ML-20S howitzer, it was designed for destroying fortifications, bunkers, and enemy armor, earning the nickname "Zveroboy" (Beast Slayer) for its ability to knock out German Tiger and Panther tanks with high-explosive shells. Though it lacked a dedicated anti-tank gun, the sheer power of its rounds could disable or destroy most enemy vehicles with a single hit. The ISU-152 featured heavy armor and was used extensively in Soviet offensives from 1944 onwards, including the Battle of Berlin. Its versatility allowed it to serve both as an assault gun in urban combat and as a tank destroyer in defensive roles. Post-war, the ISU-152 continued to serve in Soviet and allied forces for decades, with some remaining in reserve into the late 20th century.
