Australian - Local Pattern 2 Carrier (LP2)

The Australian Local Pattern 2 Carrier (LP2) was an improved Australian-built tracked carrier developed during the Second World War following experience with the earlier LP1. Entering production in 1941, the LP2 incorporated a number of improvements and became an important part of Australia’s rapidly expanding wartime vehicle industry. Compact, reliable and highly versatile, these carriers could transport infantry, ammunition, weapons and supplies, while also serving in reconnaissance and support roles. They could be equipped with weapons such as the Bren light machine gun and were produced in several specialised configurations. Thousands of LP2 and improved LP2A carriers were manufactured, serving not only with Australian forces but also with other Commonwealth armies, making the Local Pattern Carrier one of Australia’s most successful armoured vehicle production programmes of WWII.
