Australian - Matilda Frog

The Matilda Frog was an Australian flamethrower conversion of the Matilda II infantry tank, developed during the later stages of the Second World War for fighting Japanese fortified positions in the Pacific. The standard 2-pounder gun was replaced by a flamethrower, while the tank retained its coaxial Besa machine gun and formidable armour protection. Unlike earlier flamethrower tanks that relied on a separate trailer, the Frog carried its flame fuel internally, making it better suited to the difficult terrain of the South-West Pacific. Entering service in 1945, Matilda Frogs were used during the Borneo campaign, where their combination of heavy armour and flame weaponry made them particularly effective against bunkers and strongly defended positions.
