Australian - Rover Light Armoured Car Mk.II

The Rover Light Armoured Car Mk.II was an Australian-built reconnaissance vehicle developed during the Second World War when the threat of Japanese expansion created an urgent demand for locally produced armoured vehicles. Built using commercially available Ford truck components, the Rover featured an armoured body and was intended for reconnaissance, patrol, liaison and training duties. The improved Mk.II incorporated changes from the earlier design and was typically armed with light machine guns such as the Bren. Although produced in useful numbers, the increasing availability of more capable imported Allied vehicles meant that the Rover saw little front-line combat. It nevertheless represents an important part of Australia’s rapid expansion of domestic military vehicle production during WWII.
