British - Airborne 1944 - Vickers Team

The British Airborne Vickers Team provided paratroopers and glider-borne forces with sustained heavy machine-gun support during the campaigns of 1944. The water-cooled .303 Vickers machine gun was renowned for its reliability and could maintain prolonged, accurate fire when supplied with sufficient ammunition and water. Operated by a dedicated crew, Vickers teams could suppress enemy infantry, cover defensive positions and dominate important approaches from considerable range. Airborne Vickers guns saw particularly notable service during Operation Market Garden, where they helped British airborne troops defend their positions around Arnhem and Oosterbeek against repeated German attacks.
