European Partizans - Command

The European Partisan Command represents the leaders, organisers and communications personnel who coordinated resistance groups across occupied Europe during the Second World War. Partisan commanders came from a wide variety of backgrounds, from former soldiers and local political leaders to civilians who had taken up arms against the occupying forces. Often equipped with a mixture of captured, pre-war and Allied-supplied weapons, command groups planned ambushes, sabotage operations, intelligence gathering and attacks on enemy communications and supply routes. From France and Italy to Poland, Yugoslavia and the Soviet territories, these leaders played a vital role in organising resistance fighters and coordinating their activities with advancing Allied forces.
